Why do I work with fibre?

Why do I work with fibre?

When I was a child, I taught myself to weave and crochet by observing others, and used to love sit around for hours on Sunday mornings randomly crocheting.

As I became older, studying, work and eventually being a Mother took up all my time and fibre art fell to the side and finally, became completely forgotten.

As my children grew, even though they were homeschooled, with some time freed up, I began to be able to explore not only crocheting again, but weaving traditional baskets, spinning yarn, and loom weaving.

Weaving, spinning and sewing quickly became an expression of my journey to connect to my culture, heritage and express my love for nature.

The sheer amount of fibres and textiles available allowed me to use traditional techniques while having the freedom to add a personal and contemporary flair.
Weaving baskets allows me to use traditional techniques and reflect the colours and textures found on Noongar/Nyungar Boodja, and Country I visited in my youth.

Loom weaving and spinning gives me the freedom to make unique pieces from scratch, that have eclectic, boho, vintage and fantasy themes and often depict a dreamy aesthetic.

Sustainability has become increasingly important to me, the more I learn about waste. I taught myself to sew as a way to mitigate this waste through upcyling and repurposing. Sewing is a fantastic medium to make this happen. The sewn hair accessories and bags in my little shop are designed keeping fashion/fabric waste in mind, making use of remnant and discarded fabrics and materials, while maintaining comfort and ease of use.

With an online shop, I am able to share my ideas with all of you.
